The 2019 season of RP Motorsport started immediately with a good result in the inaugural race of the Indy Pro 2000, staged on the city track of St. Petersburg. The 20 year old American Kyle Kirkwood has in fact conquered the second place at the end of race-2 after starting from the first row, scoring a convincing performance that saw him fight in the top positions for the whole weekend. The first experience on American soil has recorded a growing test also by Damiano Fioravanti, who has taken two good placings without making mistakes, despite the few kilometers traveled previously and over a year and a half since his last race in seaters.

The inaugural weekend of the preparatory series to the prestigious IndyCar Series saw the two drivers of the Piacenza team place themselves in fourth and eleventh position at the end of the first qualifying session, with Kirkwood and Fioravanti constantly improving after only two days of tests carried out at Homestead. Race 1, however, turned out to be extremely unlucky for Kirkwood, who in the opening lap saw his front wing damaged in the agitated stages of the start, before having to leave definitively after a few laps following a contact with an opponent. Fioravanti looked to accumulate valuable experience, finishing his test without smudging and closing in eleventh position under the checkered flag.

On the following day things went better for both riders, definitely at ease with their car thanks to the excellent work done by the men of the team: Kirkwood has in fact conquered an excellent front row by signing the second half, while Fioravanti it has clearly improved compared to the previous day obtaining the ninth absolute performance. Both drivers then became authors of a solid and error-free test during the race, with Kirkwood giving the first podium of the season to the team (also scoring the fastest lap in the race) and Fioravanti who managed to get his first placement within the top ten.

Fabio Pampado (Team Principal RP Motorsport): “We are overall satisfied with the budget of this first seasonal weekend. For both pilots it was a new experience and we had estimated the need to pay the apprenticeship fee. I must say, however, that Kyle managed to get a good result in the second race, demonstrating a great all weekend

step and confirming the expectations we have placed on him. Damiano also performed well, despite being at the first career experience on a city track and on his return to the car after a long period. So let’s take the good we did on this occasion and look ahead: the season is long and we will have time to prepare ourselves in the best possible way for the next appointment “.

Kyle Kirkwood (RP Motorsport driver): “I am very happy to have finished my debut with RP Motorsport and in this category with a good result. In the first race I was unfortunately forced to retire after a contact in the early stages: fortunately the car did not suffer any major damage and I was put in the best conditions by the team to make the maximum in race-2. However, we have proven to be there and I am sure that we will be able to take away some great satisfaction this year ”.

Damiano Fioravanti (RP Motorsport driver): “In general I am happy with how it went, especially considering that I knew very little about the car and had never raced in my life on a street circuit. I tried to learn gradually, taking care not to make mistakes, and I must say that over the weekend the results were seen. However, I am happy with this experience and now I will be able to return to focusing on my season in Europe, which is also strong in this precious training. ”

A long break now awaits RP Motorsport ahead of the second round of the season, which will be staged in the magnificent Indianapolis setting, where last year the team led by Fabio Pampado managed to win a resounding success.
